Senator John Vasconcellos (D-Santa Clara)
Elected to the State Senate in 1996 after representing the Santa Clara County/Silicon Valley in the California State Assembly for 30 years. Chairs the Senate Education Committee and is vice chair of Public Safety. Serves on several policy committees, including Budget and Fiscal Review; Energy, Utilities and Communications; and Health and Human Services. Founder of the California Task Force to Promote Self Esteem and Personal and Social Responsibility. Chaired the Assembly Democratic Economic Prosperity Team (ADEPT), designing California's economic recovery.
